Hydrotherapy is a form of therapy where a series of aerobic and resistance exercises are conducted in a warm-water pool. Aquatic physiotherapy is often used to treat arthritis or rheumatic-related complaints since the water supports weight and relieves pain by decreasing the amount of pressure on joints such as ankles, knees, hips and spine.

At My Physio My Health, our physiotherapists make sure your hydrotherapy class is tailored to your needs. We'll help to make you feel comfortable in the pool and can adjust the programs to suit your level of fitness and experience.

Hydro FAQs

Hydrotherapy is pool based exercise rehab using the buoyancy and drag of the water as the resistance. Our team of professionals can teach you various specific exercises for your condition and level.
The buoyancy of the water alleviates to force of gravity on the joints making it especially good for joint conditions such as osteoarthritis. The warm temperatures of the water also provide a pain-relieving effect often allowing someone to exercise at a higher intensity and/or with less pain then they could on land.
No, virtually all exercises are done with feet on the pool floor and water levels not being above chest height. If there are exercises that are too challenging or causing anxiety, let your therapist know and they can provide alternatives
We use community pools for our hydrotherapy but there should always be adequate space for you to do your hydrotherapy sessions without issue. The therapist generally instructs from outside of the pool, however if the therapist can be in the pool if needed in the pool to provide support and safety. We also offer group class sessions as a cheaper alternative to individual sessions.
You will only need bathers and a towel to do hydrotherapy. All exercise equipment will be provided between the clinic and the pool.
If you are concerned about whether hydrotherapy is suited for you it is highly recommended to have an initial consult in-clinic prior with one of our therapists. That way they can understand your condition and provide the suitable support whether that be providing specific exercises or entering the pool with you to support you throughout the session.
The pool’s used are dependent on which clinic you attend and your availability. Our Torrensville and Woodville clinics use Adelaide Hydrotherapy in Welland and The Parks Recreation Centre in Angle Park. Our Holden Hill and Lightsview clinics use Funlife Fitness Centre at Ingle Farm and ARC at Campbelltown.
The costs are dependant on how you want to pay and whether sessions are individual or in a group setting. If interested please call one of our clinics and our staff can assist you to provide you a quote of the costs.
